Tips for Co-existing with Urban Wildlife

Concerned about wildlife such as coyotes and bobcats roaming your neighborhood? If so, be sure to mark your calendars for August 1, 6 p.m. at the City of Rockwall Community Center for a special fun and informative presentation on living with urban wildlife.

Sponsored by the Rockwall County Open Space Alliance, the star of the program will be Sam Kieschnick, an urban wildlife biologist with Texas Parks and Wildlife. He will offer advice on co-existing with animals that are invading your space as he focuses on the Three A’s: Awareness, Appreciation and Action.

As an extra attraction, the City of Rockwall will provide its mobile wildlife exhibit on site.

Andy Hesser, the city’s Director of Parks and Recreation, said his office receives calls frequently about pesky wildlife creatures such as coyotes, bobcats, racoons and opossums.

“Remember, they were here before our growing community encroached into their habitat,” Hesser said, noting that they are opportunistic feeders looking for easy meals.

Everyone is welcome to this special FREE family event that will also include hot dogs, potato chips, cookies and drinks served from 6-6:30 p.m. - all compliments of the Alliance.
